This is where I share with you what stirs and awakens my and the souls of others, what it feels like; what gives us that kick when drudgeries of life consume us. I will talk briefly about anything that inspires me and welcome you to do the same. Sometimes it may be a picture; other times, a story, a poem, a song, etc.

Our passions do not live apart in locked chambers but dress in their
small wardrobe of notions, bring their provisions to a common table and mess together, feeding out of the common store according to
their appetite.

George Eliot (1819-80), English novelist, editor. Middlemarch, bk. 2, ch. 16

A woman lies awake on a tattered and flat mattress supported only by the old creaky floor beneath her. The one-room apartment is surrounded by those familiar sounds and smells that permeate the senses of thousands of people who live in dilapidated high rises around the country. Yet, she hears only the sensual sounds of the worn disc spinning on the old phonograph that her mama gave her when she was a child. She smells nothing but the sweetness of the musical castles built by Grappelli and Menuhin. Porter, Gershwin, Berlin, and Carmichael are her saviors from the reality of life. No smell of urine in the hallways. Her passion is classical music.

When I talk about passion on this page, this is what I am talking about. Sure, one often thinks of sex when hearing that word; God knows I do. And I will talk about it sometimes, but that is not all passion pertains to. It is that strong emotional drive or overmastering feeling or conviction that is often beyond all reasoning.  It is that strong desire or devotion to some activity, object or concept. It is synonymical to words such as fervor, zeal, enthusiasm, ardor, and zeal.

On this page, I want to talk about and share with you what stirs and awakens mine and many others' souls, what it feels like; what gives us that kick when drudgeries of life consume us. I will talk briefly about anything that inspires me and welcome you to do the same. Sometimes it may be a picture; other times, a story, a poem, etc.

  • What really makes you smile no matter what?
  • What stirs your soul and gives you peace of mind?
  • If you could pick the most ideal situation where you would be happy all the time while making a living doing it, what would it be?

This is what we all need to connect to; hold onto. So, visit often and feel and embrace the warmth wherever it hits you, including what turns you on erotically.

My advice to those who think they have to take off their clothes to be a star is, once you're boned, what's left to create the illusion? Let 'em wonder. I never believed in givin' them too much of me.
Mae West (1892-1980), U.S. screen actor. On Sex, Health and ESP,
"Biographical Study," ch. 4 (1975).

Nudity

There are those who so dislike the nude that they find something indecent in the naked truth.
F. H. Bradley (1846-1924), English philosopher. Aphorisms, no. 88 (1930).

When I think something is erotic, I feel a warmth that starts in the center of my chest and travels with intensity in heat that travels downward. It is not horniness, although it can precipitate horniness; but I'm not going there. It's that feeling of having so much deep appreciation and passion —there is that word again— for the beauty of something that I choke up. That is how I feel about the human body. I think nudity is wonderful. It's so raw and natural and free. I suppose this is a type of erotic passion. Yes?

I feel sorry for people who can't enjoy looking at and exploring their bodies and people who feel ashamed or embarassed to look at another's body. I remember reading something a long time ago that Xavier Hollander wrote where she talks about the importance of knowing your body and what turns you on before you can be a good lover. Makes sense to me! Who knows better what turns you on than you? Society calls this type of act masturbating which to many is the same thing as dirty. Since when is it a crime to touch your own body? If you know of any document that shows that masturbating is a crime, I want to hear from you. Is it possible to just appreciate the raw beauty of a body without hangups? How about muscles? Does a woman with defined muscles unattractive? If so, somebody tell Playboy that after they sold millions of copies with Chyna (WWF) as the centerfold.

I appreciate a well defined body because at a time (too long ago), I used to lift weights religiously. And I appreciate the commitment and hard work that it takes to build and nurture a well defined-body. This is not to say that I think people without muscles are unattractive. Not at all! I am simply acknowledging that to me, there is beauty in a well developed body and admiration of the discipline it takes to get it. That awareness, for me, also increases the turn-on that it gives me.. For example, take a look at this picture.

man and woman with musclular bodies

Damn!

No hangups. Just Damn! Now, take a look at this picture.

nude body with tattoos

I think this is an erotic picture. To me, it doesn't matter if it is a woman's body or a man's. It doesn't matter what society thinks I am supposed to look at or not. It doesn't even matter what I think of tattoos (which for the record, I love classy ones) or piercings. And I don't care what color her skin is or the size of her body. My first reaction was (and still is) Damn, that is hot! The illusions presented here are tantalizing. Someone actually strategically decorated this body in a way that causes one's imagination to go wild; to think of that tattoo as a trail that leads to unknown adventures. I know that some can look at this picture and not think it is attractive. Someone just recently commented to me that "manmade decorations only detract from the beauty of the body. While we both see the body as a work of art, you see tattoos and piercings as an enhancement and I see them as a distraction". I fully respect that opinion and the differences of the mind. Yes, it truly would be a boring world if we all thought alike. Personally, I think anyone that sees the body (with or without decorations) as a work of art is a lucky person.

I like to look at things in an objective manner and without labeling. So, my appreciation of this picture is not an indication of my sexual preferences. I appreciate the beauty that was obviously intended. If it makes you feel warm, enjoy that feeling. Like a sunset, God gave us our bodies and all the beauty it holds. We marvel at the sunset. We marvel at the human body.

Full nakedness! All my joys are due to thee,
As souls unbodied, bodies unclothed must be,
To taste whole joys.

John Donne (c. 1572-1631), English divine, metaphysical poet. Elegies,
"ToHis Mistress Going to Bed" (1669), composed 1590-1600.
